In a significant step toward sustainable energy solutions, AceOn Group is thrilled to share the announcement of the launch of Project ‘Mettle’ at a high-profile event in Kyiv, supported by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). The launch, which took place on 2nd May 2024, was attended by UK Secretary of State for  Foreign Affairs, Lord David Cameron, and Ukraine’s Energy Minister, Herman Halushchenko, showcasing strong international support for transformative energy initiatives.

Project ‘Mettle’, will introduce AceOn’s Portable Energy Storage (PES) systems, utilising innovative second-life battery technology to provide a zero-emission alternative to traditional power sources. Designed for rapid deployment, the PES systems are particularly targeted at improving energy access in disaster zones and remote rural areas, ensuring reliable power supply during emergencies and enhancing community resilience.

Mark Thompson, CEO of AceOn Group, expressed his enthusiasm at the event: “Presenting Project ‘Mettle’ to esteemed leaders like Lord Cameron and Minister Halushchenko was not only an honour but a testament to our commitment to pioneering sustainable energy solutions. This project is about more than innovation; it’s about empowering communities with reliable energy to significantly improve their quality of life.”

Collaboration with the Ukrainian Red Cross society is a key aspect of Project ‘Mettle’, enabling the deployment of PES systems to support their crucial services in crisis-affected areas. This partnership underscores the project’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology for humanitarian aid. Other key partners on the project are the Institute of Electrodynamics and Technoservicedrive from Ukraine, alongside Liverpool John Moores University.

Further underscoring its commitment to sustainability, AceOn Group plans to enable and facilitate  a local manufacturing facility in Ukraine in due course. This facility will produce swappable power packs and PES Generators, promoting local economic growth and sustainable practices while supporting the wider advancement of renewable energy solutions through strategic partnerships and innovative technologies.

Project ‘Mettle’ will be delivered over a two-year period. AceOn Group is leading this exciting project which will hopefully contribute to  a brighter, more sustainable future for Ukraine. A massive thank you to our team in Ukraine, particularly Ivan Shapoval and Ihor Blinov (pictured) from the Institute of Electrodynamics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Ivan presented the project with distinction, and Ihor attended and supported the event, both playing crucial roles in its success.
