AceOn Group managing director Mark Thompson today helped officially open a new centre for low carbon expertise in Shropshire – and said it would play a vital part in helping the green revolution across the region.
The Pump House Knowledge Hub in Shrewsbury is dedicated to helping local organisations and businesses gain and share knowledge, obtain and offer skills training and collaborate on solutions to the challenges of making buildings both sustainable and healthy.
The Pump House was one of the first low carbon buildings in Shrewsbury and the building itself will be used for technical demonstrations of sustainable technologies in action. It has been recently refurbished to include a small conference centre, three meeting rooms and a lobby/exhibition area as well as high tech meeting and presenting facilities.
AceOn’s Mark Thompson was invited to speak at the launch event about renewable energy, battery storage and trading with the grid.
Mark said: “We have been really excited for the launch of the Pump House in Shrewsbury. As well as being an example of best practice for building sustainability, it’s going to be home to new energy storage courses bringing vital training opportunities to installers working in and around the wider Midlands area to upskill themselves on how to install and maintain this important renewable technology.”
Later this year, training provider GTEC will be launching battery storage training courses at the Pump House. The courses, already running at GTEC’s training centre in Yorkshire, have been created in consultation with AceOn, which has also provided the equipment for installers to work on.
The Pump House is the brainchild of EVORA EDGE, a national building services engineering consultancy based in Shrewsbury, who are working with the University of Chester on the project.
EVORA EDGE managing director Neil Dady said: “We want the Knowledge Hub to be a place where people can collaborate, get support and skills and begin to develop new solutions, products and services to help stimulate economic growth in the area.”
An announcement about the new energy storage courses at the Pump House will be released shortly.
